While surfing for Valentine's info I can across this new satirical holiday... What do you think - does Valentine's Day need a counter-holiday or is this just going too far?
Singles Awareness Day (SAD) celebrates anti-love sentiments on February 13th, 14th and/or 15th. The official description is a holiday to celebrate being happy without a partner or gathering to commiserate being alone but some sites labeled the SAD holiday just self deprecating bad humour.
So would you wish someone "Happy SAD" or "Happy Valentine's Day"?

I would say Happy Valentine's day for sure - Happy Single Awareness Day just sounds awkward.
ReplyDeleteI would agree, Happy Valentines day is the way to go. Some singles could consider this a sad day and nothing to be celebrated. But considering it is a Halmark "holiday" anyway, there is not much to celebrate. Just a nice day to spend with people you love!

I dont understand the point of 'celebrating' anti-love sentiments on a day reserved for expressing love. Sounds kinda bitter to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated V-Day

Actually what i think they need to do is create another Hallmark holiday ... but have it be more GUY-centric ... you know ... like Happy BBQ Meat Day ... something like that ...
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the showing affection and love for that special person in your life be an every day occurence? Now, understandably, some men in particular, need a little kick in the butt and Valentine's day ensures that a woman gets some nice flowers or chocolates as tangible proof that she is the proud recipient of someone's love... but wouldn't it be nicer to receive those gifts - tangible or not (i.e: gestures, surprises, a poem perhaps?) on a day when the rest of the world ISN'T celebrating alongside you?
ReplyDeleteArden's input. Nice work on the blog Barbara, it's really good! Will write you soon, I promise xx Miss you!
